POLITICAL EDUCATION DRIVE PICKS UP A GEAR
OR Tambo School of Leadership is starting with the next phase of its political education delivery with a focus on its advanced course offerings.
OR Tambo School is set to start rollout of its advanced courses, referred to as strategic courses, from 10th October 2020 targeted at ANC provincial leaders and legislators from four provinces. Focused on the module of Tools of Analysis, this initial advanced course will run until the end of November 2020 through online sessions, self-studies, and assessments in Free State, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and Kwazulu Natal provinces.
“Our course structure is based on integrated contact sessions, learning support and assessment” explains OR Tambo School Principal David Masondo. “To be successful one must submit all independent tasks, attendant contact sessions where registers will be marked as well as pass the final assessment”.
The delivery of the Tools of Analysis module will serve as both a catalyst and test case for the school’s strategic courses as it will be the first of its kind delivered in an environment of Covid-19 where frequent movement and physical meetings that can be avoided is either discouraged or prohibited. A context requiring for the course delivery to be held online with rigorous postmortems which must determine if such an approach impacts positively or negatively on the primary outcomes and objectives of the course.
The Tools of Analysis module focuses on the philosophical, social, political, and economic concepts that would enable students to analyse contemporary local and global society from a transformation perspective. The module contains many practical activities in which the student engages in dynamic social, political, and economic analysis of real concrete situations using a variety of analytical models, tools and techniques.
“After completion of the course, students must be able to apply basic tools of analysis critically and analytically to concrete social, economic and political situations, and contexts. It is all about deepening understanding of how the world works and how to change it” explains David Masondo
Linked to its organisational renewal drive, the ANC National Executive Committee determined that it is mandatory to successfully attend OR Tambo School’s courses. To date five of the thirteen strategic courses are ready for delivery to the targeted audiences.
