PASSING OF OR TAMBO SCHOOL’S ECONOMICS MODULE FACILITATOR
OR Tambo School of Leadership is saddened to learn about the untimely passing of Professor Daniel Plaaitjies who was one of the school’s Economics module facilitators.
Professor Daniel Plaatjies passed away at the age of 57 on 10th October 2020 due to natural causes. At the time of his passing he was the Chairperson of the Financial and Fiscal Commission, a role his served in since 1 July 2017.
Professor Plaaitjies was a scholar activist who was also a knowledgeable and experienced executive civil servant, academic and researcher who made an immense contribution to scholarship. His renowned for dedicating his life to advancing the cause of social justice and betterment of all. He held a PhD (Wits), MPhil (UWC), BSocSc Honours (UCT), and numerous professional certificates from international academic institutions.
OR Tambo School recently commenced with the rollout of its advanced courses, starting with the module Tools of Analysis that will be followed by the Economics Module which Professor Plaaitjies was looking forward to facilitate.
“Considering that at the heart of OR Tambo School’s offerings is a desire to impact on the quality of leadership South Africa can fashion, it goes without saying that the death of Professor Plaaitjies is a sure loss for us as a school, the ANC and our entire country” explained David Masondo.
“At what is bound to be a trying time we extend our condolences to the family of Professor Daniel Plaaitjies. We commit to pick up his spear and keep his activist scholarship, his passion for academic and political education alive through our zeal to fulfil the mandate bestowed on OR Tambo School of Leadership” further explained Principal David Masondo.
