ANC LOCAL GOVERNMENT DEPLOYEES GETS READIED FOR THEIR WORK AHEAD
On 03rd December 2021 OR Tambo School of Leadership will offer induction training to local government councillors representing the African National Congress (ANC).
OR Tambo School is embarking on a programme to capacitate ANC local government councillors to perform their role following elections unto local government councils. This effort will start with an induction programme to be held on 03rd December 2021 which will focus on the delivery of key elements contained in the ANC’s manifesto. Meaning emphasis on improving service delivery, accountability and public participation.
The first batch of provinces that will be covered in the Induction Workshops are Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Western Cape and Eastern Cape.
“At these initial stages of ANC Councillors’ capacitation journey, we desire an outcome that speaks to an understanding of the most important services that must be delivered and methods for accountability and public participation” explains OR Tambo School Principal, David Masondo. “It is through interventions like these that organizational and societal renewal will move from talk and conceptualisation to meaningful and tangible outcomes that touches the lived experiences of all”.
Areas that will be covered during the induction workshop includes: –
• What are the development challenges facing South Africa?
• What are ANC’s goals, strategy, policies, and manifesto as it relates to local government?
• Role and expectations from ANC councillors regarding elements such as service delivery, accountability and decision-making.
To become an ANC local government councilor one is required to have completed the OR Tambo School Prerequisite Courses, which are introductory political education. This means that ANC Councilors are eligible and readied for the more advanced level courses of the school termed Strategic Courses.
The Induction Workshop is viewed as part of broader ongoing political education offerings that are designed to improve the performance of ANC deployees. In that sense, after this workshop there will be additional offerings targeted at local government councillors.
“Beyond the current Induction Workshop we will look at furtherance of political education offerings that will stand ANC Councilors in good stead,” concludes David Masondo. “Here one refers to our more rigorous Strategic Courses that covers areas such as Introduction to Basic Economic, Development and Economics for South Africa as well as Gender Relations and Women’s Emancipation, to name a few of the thirteen courses available.”
